Climate Impact Partners
We have purchased 32,000 Kg of CO2e energy offsets from Climate Impact Partners to offset the energy used by our web server, routers, air conditioning and other power uses related to the data centre infrastructure.
subsequently we offset our office usage by using Bullfrog Power. We purchase around 8,000 kilowatt hours yearly of green energy directly from Bullfrog Power, a supplier of clean energy in Ontario and Alberta. This amounts to the prevention of 3,918 kg of CO2, Nitric Oxide and Sulphur Dioxide emissions.

Voluntary Cancellation Certificate UN (March 2023)
Regarding our calculation, we really make it super simple and aim to offset way more than needed. We use numbers from https://www.goclimate.com/blog/the-carbon-footprint-of-servers/ and we round those up to be safe.
We have about 100 servers:
40 of those are on cloud server using 100% green electricity (200 kg CO2 per year per server) = 8 tons
40 are on data center using non green electricity (1000 kg CO2 per year per server) = 40 tons
20 are on cloud server using non green electricity (500 kg CO2 per year per server) = 10 tons
Total carbon emission = 58 tons
Then we add our office emission from US EPA (https://www3.epa.gov/carbon-footprint-calculator/) : about 10 tons for 3 full time workers in Canada and US (working from home) and 2 in India (from a shared office).
We arrive at 68 tons. We compensate 150 (or about twice the amount, accounting some smaller trip we might take here and there).

Powered from renewable sources
As our business and the data center we use are located in the province of Quebec, almost 100% of electricity we consume come from renewables sources. Here is a statement from Hydro-Québec, the public utility that manages the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in the Canadian province of Quebec.
